It’s that time of year! The Bald Eagles have arrived in our area. The numbers of Bald Eagles in the surrounding area around Roberts’ Roost Country Guest House will vary from day to day according to the weather conditions. As the Mississippi River freezes and the fish supply gets smaller, the Bald Eagles that don’t move farther south down the river, will move inland looking for food sources. On January 11th, we had six Bald Eagles within a 1/4 mile of Roberts’ Roost Country Guest House searching for food. The two photos I have included here were taken from the Roberts’ Roost Country Guest House front yard.
Roberts’ Roost Country Guest House is conveniently located to many prime Bald Eagle viewing areas. Lock and Dam 12 in Bellevue, Iowa and Lock and Dam 13 in Fulton, Illinois are within a 20 to 30 minute drive. Lost Mound Unit of the Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge is only 7 miles north of Savanna and provides many close up views of Bald Eagles. Sabula, Iowa (the Island City) across the river from Savanna, often in the winter months has many opportunities for Bald Eagle Viewing.
